Beloved brethren in Christ our Lord, as we stand gathered in this holy assembly under the light of the eternal Word, let us ponder deeply the sacred utterance from the book of Judith: '...have no fear in your heart...' (Judith 10:16). In those ancient days when the Assyrian host under Holofernes encircled the thirsty walls of Bethulia, the widow Judith arose not in despair but in holy boldness, her soul anchored in the covenant promises of the God of Abraham. She adorned herself with wisdom and piety, entering the enemy camp to effect deliverance for the people of Israel, her heart untroubled by the terrors of the night. The Early Church Fathers, those steadfast pillars who preserved the deposit of faith amid Roman persecutions, expound this theme with luminous clarity. St. Augustine in his City of God declares that the Christian soul, illumined by divine grace, knows no fear of temporal powers, for all earthly threats dissolve before the sovereignty of the Most High. St. John Chrysostom, in his homilies on the courage of the saints, invokes the example of Judith alongside Esther to exhort the faithful: fear not the tyrant, for the Lord who delivered the just in ages past remains our shield. From the rich catena of the Angelic Doctor, we hear Origen and St. Jerome linking such fortitude to the Gospel call to take up the cross without trembling. The historical witness of the martyrs, like St. Perpetua who faced the beasts with serene countenance, echoes this biblical pattern. Let your hearts therefore rest in the Lord who parts the seas and confounds the mighty, for in Him alone is our victory assured. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #044of220 #Catholic
