In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Dearly beloved brethren assembled in the house of the Lord, let the words of the prophet Samuel echo through these ancient walls as we meditate upon the sacred text from the first book of Samuel, chapter twelve, verse twenty: 'Do not fear.' In the historical annals of Israel, this exhortation arises amid a profound transition from the era of judges to the establishment of monarchy. The chosen people, weary of divine theocracy, had clamored for a king like the pagan nations, thereby rejecting the Lord as their sole ruler and grieving the heart of His servant Samuel. Yet even in this grave transgression the merciful God does not abandon them but sends words of consolation through the prophet: though wickedness has been done, they must turn not aside from following the Lord but serve Him with all their heart. The Early Church Fathers, those luminous guides of our faith, illuminate this passage with profound insight. St. Augustine of Hippo, in his masterful City of God, contrasts the fleeting kingdoms of earth with the eternal City, teaching that true fearlessness springs from anchoring the soul in divine providence rather than human power. St. John Chrysostom, in his homilies on faith, declares that the command 'do not fear' dispels the anxiety born of worldly attachments and summons us to perfect trust. Drawing from the rich catena of patristic wisdom, we perceive how this Old Testament assurance prefigures the Gospel's repeated invitations to cast aside fear through love. St. Ambrose likewise urges the faithful to heed the prophet's call, transforming dread of judgment into reverent obedience. Let us therefore, O brethren, apply these lessons to our pilgrimage, rejecting the idols of our time and clinging to the Lord with undivided hearts. In this unplugged meditation we strip away all vanities and return to the pure fountain of scripture and tradition. Do not fear the vicissitudes of fortune or the assaults of the enemy, for the Lord remains faithful. Serve Him wholly, and peace shall dwell in your souls. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #029of220 #Catholic
