Verse #112 of 220
Good morning, friends! 🌅 As we step into this beautiful May 14, 2026, let's pause and reflect on a powerful reminder from Scripture that can light our path through whatever challenges we're facing. Today's verse from our #FearNot220 series is #112: '...do not be afraid of those who kill the body...' (Matthew 10:28). These words from Jesus aren't just ancient wisdom—they're a lifeline for us right now, in a world that feels increasingly uncertain.
Think about the headlines we're seeing today: escalating tensions in global politics, with conflicts flaring up in regions like Eastern Europe and the Middle East, where violence threatens innocent lives. Or closer to home, the rise in cyber threats and economic instability that's leaving many of us worried about job security and providing for our families. And let's not forget the personal battles—health scares, relationship strains, or even the subtle fears that creep in during quiet moments. It's easy to feel overwhelmed, isn't it? But Jesus is speaking directly to us: Don't fear those who can harm the body. Our souls are in God's hands, and that's where true security lies.
Drawing from the Early Church Fathers, St. Ignatius of Antioch, on his way to martyrdom in Rome around 107 AD, wrote letters encouraging believers not to fear physical death. He saw it as a gateway to eternal life with Christ, echoing Jesus' words. Similarly, Tertullian reminded the faithful that the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church—persecution might harm the body, but it can't touch the spirit that God protects. These insights aren't meant to glorify suffering but to remind us that our faith has withstood trials for centuries, building resilience and hope.
Yet, let's ground this in our present moment. Today, in 2026, as we navigate a world still recovering from pandemics and grappling with AI-driven changes that disrupt our daily lives, this verse invites us to shift our focus. Instead of being paralyzed by fear of what might happen to our bodies or our circumstances, let's lean into the eternal. God values our souls infinitely more than any temporal threat. This doesn't mean we ignore real dangers—we take wise precautions, support one another, and advocate for peace—but we do it from a place of unshakeable hope.
Imagine starting your day with this truth: No matter what comes—be it a tough diagnosis, a divisive election season, or global unrest—your core, your eternal self, is safe in God's love. That's freedom! It empowers us to live boldly, to love fiercely, and to spread kindness in a fearful world. So, let's encourage each other today: Reach out to a friend who's struggling, pray for those in harm's way, and remember, fear not—the One who holds our souls is greater than any foe.
Wishing you a day filled with peace and courage. You've got this, because He's got you. đź’•
