Verse #216 of 220

Beloved brethren in Christ, gathered here in the shadow of the eternal throne, hear the words of the divine Apocalypse, as revealed to John the Theologian: 'Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her' (Revelation 18:20). Ah, what a clarion call to the faithful soul! In this verse, we behold the downfall of Babylon the Great, that harlot of worldly corruption, drunk with the blood of martyrs. As I, your humble servant echoing the voices of the ancients, stand before you like Chrysostom thundering from Antioch or Augustine weeping over Hippo, let us delve into this mystery. The Catena Aurea, that golden chain of patristic wisdom compiled by the angelic Thomas, draws us to Bede the Venerable, who teaches that Babylon signifies the city of confusion, the empire of sin that persecutes the Church. 'Rejoice,' he urges, for her fall is the vindication of the just! Origen, in his profound allegories, sees here the overthrow of spiritual wickedness, where heaven itself exults because God avenges His elect. Think, my children, of Gregory the Great, who in his Moralia reminds us that the saints' rejoicing is not in vengeance for its own sake, but in the triumph of divine justice, which turns sorrow into everlasting joy. O, how warm is the fire of this truth! In our earthly pilgrimage, we face the Babylons of our age—empires of greed, towers of pride that crumble like Jericho's walls. Yet, fear not! As Jerome expounds in his commentaries, the apostles and prophets, once slain by her hand, now witness her ruin from glory. This is no cold retribution, but a powerful affirmation: God's kingdom endures. Let your hearts swell with timeless hope, for as Ambrose declares, 'The fall of the wicked is the rising of the righteous.' Rejoice, then, not in malice, but in the Lamb's victory, who slays the dragon and crowns His bride, the Church. Beloved, in this unplugged hour, unplug from the world's clamor and plug into heaven's song. The martyrs' blood cries out, and God answers with thunderous mercy. Let us, like the early Fathers, live as exiles in Babylon, eyes fixed on the New Jerusalem. Rejoice, O heaven-bound souls, for judgment is rendered, and eternal life awaits! #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #216of220 #Catholic
