Beloved brethren in Christ, gathered here in the shadow of the eternal Word, I, your humble servant echoing the voices of the ancients, beseech you to heed the divine command spoken to Joshua of old: 'Do not fear them...' (Joshua 10:8). Ah, what a clarion call from the heavens! In the Catena Aurea, compiled by the angelic doctor Thomas, we find the Fathers weaving golden threads around the Scriptures, illuminating how the Lord ever strengthens His faithful against the hosts of adversity. Consider Origen, that profound exegete of Alexandria, who teaches us that Joshua prefigures our Lord Jesus Christ, the true Captain of our salvation. Just as God delivered the five kings into Joshua's hands, so too does He vanquish the principalities and powers that assail our souls. 'Do not fear them,' saith the Lord, for they are but shadows fleeing before the light of His countenance. Chrysostom, the golden-mouthed, reminds us in his homilies that fear is the weapon of the evil one, sown to paralyze the warrior of God. Yet, in the battle of life, as in Gibeon where the sun stood still, divine providence halts the chaos, granting victory to those who trust. My children, in these turbulent times, when the world rages like the Amorites against the people of God, let us draw from Basil the Great's wisdom: 'Fear not the reproaches of men, nor be afraid of their revilings' (cf. Isaiah 51:7, echoed in his letters). The Lord, who parted the Jordan for Joshua, parts the seas of our anxieties. Augustine, in his Confessions, confesses how fear gripped his heart until grace dispelled it like mist before the dawn. 'Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord,' he cries, and in that making, He arms us with courage. Think upon Gregory of Nyssa, who in his Life of Moses parallels the exodus to our spiritual journey—fear not the Pharaohs of doubt, for the pillar of fire leads onward. The verse whispers timeless truth: God has given our enemies into our hands, not by our might, but by His. In the arena of faith, as Tertullian boldly proclaimed against the pagans, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. O flock of Christ, warm your hearts at this sacred fire! When tempests howl and foes encircle, remember Joshua's stand. The Lord fights for you; stand firm and see His salvation. Let not fear chain your steps, for the victory is assured in Christ, the eternal Joshua. Go forth, fearless, in His name. Thus, from the pulpit of eternity, I exhort you: Embrace this word, live it boldly, and witness the mountains melt before your faith. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #024of220 #Catholic
