Verse #025 of 220

Beloved brethren, gathered in the light of the Eternal Word, hear now the voice of Joshua, that valiant servant of the Most High, as he speaks to the captains of Israel: 'Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and of good courage, for thus the Lord will do to all your enemies against whom you fight' (Joshua 10:25). Ah, what words of fire these are, kindled by the Spirit Himself, to enflame the hearts of the faithful amid the battles of this earthly pilgrimage! In the days of old, Joshua, whose very name foreshadows our Lord Jesus—'Yeshua,' the Savior—stood victorious over the five kings of the Amorites, those tyrants hidden in the cave of Makkedah. He called forth his leaders, bidding them place their feet upon the necks of the vanquished, a sign of utter dominion granted by God. As the great Origen teaches us in his Homilies on Joshua, this is no mere historical tale, but a profound allegory of the spiritual warfare we wage. The five kings represent the five senses, enslaved by sin, which Christ our Joshua crushes beneath the feet of His saints. 'Fear not,' he cries, for the Lord fights for you! Draw near, then, and ponder the wisdom of the Fathers. Saint Jerome, in his commentaries, reminds us that Joshua's conquests prefigure the triumph of the Church over the powers of darkness. Just as the sun stood still at Gibeon by Joshua's command, so too does Christ, the Sun of Righteousness, halt the course of our fears, illuminating the soul with eternal day. And blessed Augustine, in his expositions, urges us to see in these words an antidote to dismay: 'The Lord is our helper; whom shall we fear?' (Psalm 118:6). For what are our enemies—be they the whispers of doubt, the assaults of temptation, or the tempests of tribulation—but shadows fleeing before the dawn? O faithful ones, in this unplugged hour, unplug from the clamor of the world and plug into the power of God! When the giants of anxiety loom, remember Joshua's charge. Be not dismayed by the Makkedahs of life, those hidden caves where fears lurk. Stand firm, for the same God who parted the Jordan parts our seas of sorrow. As Chrysostom might exhort, let courage be your breastplate, faith your shield, and prayer your sword. The victory is not in our strength, but in His promise: 'I will never leave you nor forsake you' (Hebrews 13:5). Thus, my children, arise with renewed vigor! Let this verse echo in your souls as a battle hymn. Fear not the fray, for your Joshua—Christ Himself—leads the charge. In Him, we are more than conquerors. Amen. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #025of220 #Catholic
