Verse #076 of 220

Beloved brethren in Christ, gathered here in the shadow of eternity, I, your humble servant echoing the voices of the ancients, speak to you as if from the pulpit of old. Hearken to the words of the prophet Isaiah, chapter forty-four, verse two: 'Thus saith the Lord that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.' O, how these words resound through the ages, like the thunder of Sinai or the gentle whisper to Elijah! As the great Chrysostom teaches in his homilies, drawing from the Catena Aurea, this is no mere exhortation but a divine embrace, reminding us that the Creator who knit us in the womb is the same who shields us from the tempests of life. Fear not, O Jacob—fear not, O soul beleaguered by doubts and shadows! Consider, my dear ones, the wisdom of Augustine, who in his Confessions reflects on the sovereignty of God over our formation. 'Thou hast made us for Thyself,' he cries, and in this verse, we see the Lord's tender craftsmanship. Jacob, once a wanderer, a supplanter, is called 'my servant'—not for his merits, but for God's election. So too are we, formed from the dust, yet chosen in love. The Catena Aurea compiles the fathers: Jerome expounds that 'Jesurun' means 'upright one,' a title of grace, transforming the crooked into the straight path. In these troubled times, when fears assail like lions in the arena—fears of loss, of strife, of the unknown—let us recall Origen's insight: God speaks 'Fear not' not as a command to the strong, but as comfort to the weak. He who helped Jacob wrestle the angel helps us in our nightly struggles. Basil the Great urges us to trust in this divine help, for the Lord who formed the stars forms our destinies with purpose. Brethren, let this be our meditation: You are not abandoned. The womb of God's providence envelops you. As Gregory of Nyssa teaches, fear dissolves in the light of divine intimacy. Rise, then, O Jacob within each of us! Embrace the promise. Fear not the world's tumult, for your Maker whispers peace. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who fulfilled these prophecies, fortify your hearts. Amen. #FearNot220 #FearNotUNPLUGGED #076of220 #Catholic
