Dear friends in faith, As I reflect on the words from 1 Maccabees 4:8, 'Do not be afraid of their numbers...' spoken by Judas Maccabeus to his outnumbered warriors, I'm reminded of the timeless power of courage rooted in God's strength. In that pivotal moment, facing a massive enemy army, Judas didn't cower. Instead, he rallied his people with faith, urging them to trust not in their own might, but in the Almighty who fights for the righteous. Isn't this so relevant to our lives today? We all face battles where the odds seem stacked against us. Maybe you're staring down a daunting diagnosis, feeling like the medical reports outnumber your hopes. Or perhaps you're in a workplace where voices of doubt and opposition drown out your convictions. As Catholics, we might even feel outnumbered in a world that sometimes mocks our beliefs, our devotion to the Eucharist, our commitment to life and love as taught by Christ. But hear this: Do not be afraid! Just as Judas and his small band triumphed through divine intervention, God is with us in our struggles. Remember the stories of saints like St. Joan of Arc, who led armies against impossible odds, or St. Maximilian Kolbe, who faced the horrors of Auschwitz with unshakeable faith. They weren't superhuman; they were ordinary people empowered by extraordinary grace. In our daily lives, this verse calls us to action. When anxiety whispers that you're too small, too weak, or too few, counter it with prayer. Turn to the Rosary, invoke the intercession of Our Lady, who crushed the serpent's head despite seeming fragility. Gather your 'army' – your family, your parish community – and stand firm. God doesn't count numbers; He measures hearts aflame with love. Let this be your encouragement: You're not alone. The same God who parted the Red Sea for a fleeing nation, who fed thousands with a few loaves, is fighting for you. Step forward in faith, not fear. Embrace the challenges as opportunities to witness His glory. And when victory comes – as it will, in His time – give thanks, for it was never about our strength, but His. May the peace of Christ fill your hearts today. Let's pray for one another, that we may all echo Judas's courage in our own lives. God bless you abundantly! In Christ's love, Your fellow pilgrim
