Dear friends in Christ, As we journey through the ups and downs of life, there are moments when the world around us feels like a thorny thicket, full of sharp words and stinging rebukes. People might mock our faith, question our beliefs, or even try to intimidate us with their harsh opinions. But let's turn to the words of the prophet Ezekiel, where God speaks directly to him in chapter 2, verse 6: '...fear neither them nor their words...' Ezekiel was called to speak truth to a rebellious people, surrounded by what felt like briers, thorns, and scorpions. It wasn't an easy path—far from it! He faced opposition, ridicule, and danger. Yet, God commanded him not to fear. Why? Because the Almighty was with him, guiding his steps and strengthening his heart. This isn't just ancient history; it's a timeless message for us today. Think about your own life. Maybe you're facing criticism at work for standing up for your values. Perhaps family members dismiss your devotion to the Church, or online trolls attack your posts about Jesus. In our modern world, with its cacophony of voices shouting down anything holy, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But remember, dear ones, God is calling you, just as He called Ezekiel. He says to you: Do not fear them or their words! Our Catholic faith teaches us that perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). Jesus Himself faced the ultimate rejection—mocked, scourged, and crucified—yet He rose victorious. Through the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, we receive that same strength. The Holy Spirit empowers us to speak boldly, to live authentically, without shrinking back. So, let's encourage one another. If you're feeling the sting of unkind words today, lift your eyes to heaven. Pray for those who oppose you, as Christ taught us. Surround yourself with a community of believers—your parish, a prayer group, or faithful friends—who can remind you of God's promises. Read Scripture daily, letting verses like this one from Ezekiel armor your soul. You are not alone in this. God has equipped you for the battles you face. Stand firm, speak with love, and let your light shine. The thorns may prick, but they cannot destroy the eternal hope within you. Fear not—the Lord is your shield and your strength! May the peace of Christ be with you always. Let's share stories of courage in the comments below. How has God helped you overcome fear of others' words?
