Dear friends in Christ,
As we journey through the rhythms of our daily lives, let us pause and reflect on the powerful words from the prophet Jeremiah: '...proclaim... shout... be glad and exult...' (Jeremiah 31:7). These aren't just ancient echoes; they are a divine invitation echoing through the ages, calling us to embrace joy in the midst of our trials and triumphs.
In the Catholic tradition, this verse reminds us of God's unwavering promise of restoration and redemption. Jeremiah spoke to a people in exile, yearning for home. Yet, even in their despair, God commanded them to proclaim His goodness, to shout praises from the hilltops, to be glad and exult with all their hearts. It's a radical call to faith – to trust in God's plan even when the path seems obscured.
Think about it: Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself embodied this exultation. From the joy of the Wedding at Cana to the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and ultimately to the Resurrection, His life was a proclamation of hope. As followers of Christ, we are called to mirror this joy. In our parishes, families, and communities, let's shout aloud the Good News! Proclaim the mercy of God in the confessional, the love in the Eucharist, the hope in our prayers.
But how do we cultivate this gladness? Start small. Begin each day with a prayer of gratitude. Exult in the beauty of creation – a sunrise, a child's laughter, the quiet strength of the saints. Be glad in service to others, for as St. Francis of Assisi taught, it is in giving that we receive. And when shadows fall – illness, loss, doubt – remember the Cross. There, suffering met divine love, transforming pain into glory.
Fellow Catholics, let us not whisper our faith but shout it from the rooftops! Exult in the sacraments that nourish our souls. Be glad in the communion of saints who intercede for us. Proclaim the Gospel in word and deed, inviting others into this exultant life.
In these challenging times, when the world often drowns in noise of division and despair, our shouts of joy can be a beacon. They remind us that God is gathering His people, just as Jeremiah foretold. He is leading us home to eternal gladness.
So, today, I encourage you: Proclaim God's faithfulness in your life. Shout His praises in your heart. Be glad for His presence in the ordinary. Exult with abandon, for the Lord has done great things for us!
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, our joyful Mother, intercede for us. Let us pray: O God, who through Your prophet called us to exult, fill our hearts with Your joy. Help us to proclaim Your love boldly. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
In Christ's love,
Your fellow pilgrim
