Verse #016 of 220
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, as we journey through the #FearNot220 series, let us pause and reflect on the powerful words from Deuteronomy 7:18: 'But do not be afraid of them; remember well what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt.' Oh, how these ancient words echo through the ages, reminding us that the God who parted the seas and delivered His people from bondage is the same God who walks with us today. In a world swirling with uncertainties—be it the storms of personal trials, the shadows of doubt in our faith journeys, or the daunting challenges that seem like insurmountable giants—He whispers to our hearts: Fear not!
Imagine the Israelites standing at the edge of the Promised Land, gazing upon enemies that towered like fortresses. Their fears were real, palpable, just as ours are. Yet Moses, inspired by the Holy Spirit, urges them to recall God's mighty deeds. This isn't mere nostalgia; it's a call to active trust. As St. Augustine so beautifully reflected in his Confessions, 'You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.' In moments of fear, the Early Church Fathers like Augustine teach us to turn inward, to that sacred space where God's presence dispels all darkness. He reminds us that true peace comes not from our strength, but from surrendering to the One who conquers all.
Think of your own life, beloved. Perhaps you're facing a health scare that keeps you awake at night, or the weight of financial burdens that threaten to overwhelm. Maybe it's the quiet fear of loneliness in a bustling world, or the anxiety of raising children in times that feel so unstable. I've known these fears myself—times when the 'them' in my life felt like an army arrayed against me. But in gentle prayer, in the quiet of the Eucharist, I've felt God's hand steadying mine, just as He did for the Israelites. Remember, dear friend, these fears are not the end of the story. They are invitations to deeper faith, to recall how God has already moved mountains in your past—perhaps through a timely word from a friend, a door that opened unexpectedly, or a peace that surpassed understanding during a storm.
Let us draw from the wisdom of St. John Chrysostom, another luminous Father of the Church, who said, 'Do not be afraid of the conflict; do not flee from it. Where there is no struggle, there is no virtue.' Yes, our fears may loom large, but they are dwarfed by the infinite love of our Heavenly Father. He who defeated Pharaoh's armies will scatter the shadows in your life too. So, stand firm! Recall His faithfulness, lean into His promises, and let your heart be filled with holy courage.
Fear not, for the Lord your God is with you. He goes before you, fights for you, and loves you with an everlasting love. Step forward in faith today, and watch as He turns your fears into testimonies of His glory. You are not alone—He is your shield and your strength. May the peace of Christ fill your hearts! #FearNot220 #016of220 #Catholic
