Verse #106 of 220

Dear friends in Christ, as we journey through our #FearNot220 series, today we pause at verse #106: '...do not fear...' from Zechariah 8:13. In this prophetic promise, God speaks to His people, who have endured trials and exile, assuring them that He will transform their curses into blessings. 'As you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Do not fear, let your hands be strong.' What a radiant beacon of hope this is! In the midst of scattering and sorrow, the Lord invites us to release our fears and embrace His saving grace. As a Catholic writer reflecting on this, I am warmed by the timeless wisdom of the Early Church Fathers. St. Augustine, in his Confessions, echoes this sentiment when he writes of God's providence: 'You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.' Just as Zechariah's people were called to trust in God's reversal of fortunes, Augustine reminds us that true peace comes from surrendering our anxieties to the One who turns all things to good. It's not about denying our fears, but offering them up in prayer, knowing that God's mercy is greater than any storm we face. Think of your own life, beloved. Perhaps you're navigating the uncertainties of a changing job market, where layoffs loom like shadows, or maybe you're facing health challenges that make each day feel like a battle. I've known friends who've whispered prayers in hospital waiting rooms, clinging to verses like this one. Or consider the young parent juggling work and family, fearing they might not measure up. These are the real, gentle threads of our human tapestry—moments when fear whispers doubts, but faith calls us to stand firm. In my own quiet reflections during evening Vespers, I've felt that same tug-of-war, only to find solace in the Eucharist, where Christ's presence banishes the darkness. Let us draw from the well of our Catholic tradition: the saints who faced persecutions with unshakeable trust, the mystics who found God in silence. Zechariah's words aren't just ancient echoes; they're a living invitation today. Do not fear, for the Lord is with you, turning your trials into testimonies of His love. Strengthen your hands in service, in prayer, in community. Reach out to a fellow parishioner, light a candle at your local shrine, or simply sit with the Scriptures. God is saving you, making you a blessing to others. So, dear ones, fear not! Let this promise infuse your week with courage. You are held in the heart of the Church, the Body of Christ. May the intercession of Our Lady, who pondered all things without fear, guide you. Until next time, walk boldly in faith. #FearNot220 #106of220 #Catholic
