Verse #143 of 220

Dear friends in Christ, as we journey through our #FearNot220 series, today we turn to the powerful words from Revelation 2:10: 'Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.' Oh, how these words echo through the ages, straight from the risen Lord to the persecuted church in Smyrna! In a world that often feels fraught with trials—be it personal hardships, global unrest, or the quiet battles of the soul—it's easy to let fear take hold. But hear the tender assurance: Do not be afraid. Our Lord, who conquered death itself, speaks directly to our hearts, reminding us that suffering, though real, is not the end of the story. Reflecting on this, I can't help but draw from the wisdom of St. Ignatius of Antioch, that valiant Early Church Father who faced his own martyrdom with unwavering faith. In his letter to the Romans, as he journeyed to his execution, he wrote, 'Now I begin to be a disciple... Let fire and the cross; let the crowds of wild beasts; let tearings, breakings, and dislocations of bones; let cutting off of members; let shatterings of the whole body; and let all the dreadful torments of the devil come upon me: only let me attain to Jesus Christ.' What profound trust! Ignatius didn't deny the pain; he embraced it as a path to deeper union with Christ. His words invite us to see our sufferings not as defeats, but as invitations to fidelity, much like the Smyrnans who were urged to remain steadfast amid their trials. In our own lives, perhaps you're facing a health crisis that shakes your foundation, or the loss of a loved one that leaves your heart aching. Maybe it's the subtle persecutions of standing firm in faith amid a skeptical world—ridicule at work, strained family ties, or the inner turmoil of doubt. These are the 'prisons' the devil might throw us into, testing our resolve. Yet, think of how many saints before us have walked this road: from the early martyrs to modern witnesses like St. Maximilian Kolbe, who offered his life in Auschwitz. Their stories remind us that in every ordeal, God's grace is sufficient, turning our 'ten days' of testing into eternal crowns. Beloved, let's draw gentle comfort from this: You're not alone in your sufferings. The Church, your spiritual family, prays with you. Turn to the sacraments—Eucharist for strength, Confession for healing—and let the Holy Spirit fortify your spirit. Remember, the same Lord who spoke to Smyrna whispers to you now: Remain faithful. The crown of life awaits those who persevere. So, fear not, dear soul! Embrace the cross with joy, knowing it leads to resurrection. May this verse be your anchor today. Let's share our stories of faithfulness in the comments—how has God sustained you through trials? #FearNot220 #143of220 #Catholic
