Verse #216 of 220
Dear friends in Christ, as we journey through our #FearNot220 series, today we turn to the powerful words of Revelation 18:20: 'Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!' In this verse, we witness the triumphant call to rejoice over the fall of Babylon, that ancient symbol of worldly corruption and oppression. It's a reminder that evil, no matter how formidable it seems, will not prevail. God's justice reigns eternal, and in His time, all that stands against His love will crumble.
In our warm Catholic tradition, this verse invites us to lift our hearts in hope. Think of the Early Church Fathers, like St. John Chrysostom, who reflected on the Apocalypse with such fervor. He taught that the downfall of evil is not merely a distant prophecy but a present reality in the life of the Church. 'The gates of hell shall not prevail,' as our Lord promised, and Chrysostom echoed this by urging believers to rejoice in God's victories, even amid trials. Just as the early Christians faced persecution yet found joy in the Resurrection, so too can we draw strength from this heavenly exhortation.
Gently connecting this to our real lives, perhaps you've felt overwhelmed by the 'Babylons' around us—be it personal struggles with sin, societal injustices, or the chaos of a world that often seems adrift. I know I have. There are days when the weight of worry presses heavy, when fears of failure or loss cloud our vision. But Revelation whispers to us: Rejoice! God is avenging His people, turning sorrow into celebration. Imagine a mother watching her child overcome a long illness, or a community rebuilding after a storm—these are echoes of heaven's joy, glimpses of Babylon's defeat in our midst.
Let this verse be your anchor today. In the sacraments, in prayer, in the communion of saints, we participate in this divine rejoicing. Fear not the shadows of this world, for the Light of Christ has already overcome them. Rejoice, dear ones, for God is with us, transforming our tears into songs of praise. May the Holy Spirit fill you with unshakeable joy, and may you carry this heavenly rejoicing into every corner of your life. Until next time, keep the faith! #FearNot220 #216of220 #Catholic
