Verse #017 of 220

Dear friends in Christ, as we journey through our #FearNot220 series, let us pause and reflect on the comforting words from Deuteronomy 18:22: '...you shall have no fear of him.' In the ancient context, Moses is guiding the people of Israel on discerning true prophets from false ones. If a so-called prophet's words fail to come to pass, they are not from the Lord, and thus, we need not tremble before them. What a liberating assurance! In our Catholic faith, this echoes the call to trust in God's unchanging truth amid a world often clouded by deception. Imagine the early Church, where faithful believers faced a barrage of heresies and false teachings. St. John Chrysostom, that golden-mouthed Father of the Church, reminds us in his homilies on the Scriptures that we must test every spirit, holding fast to the deposit of faith handed down through the apostles. He encourages us not to be swayed by eloquent words or fearful predictions that lack divine backing. Instead, like the Bereans in Acts, we examine the Scriptures daily, anchoring our hearts in the Magisterium and the sacraments. Chrysostom's wisdom feels so alive today—doesn't it? He teaches that fear arises from uncertainty, but in Christ, we have the Rock upon which no falsehood can prevail. In our everyday lives, this verse speaks volumes. Think of those moments when social media floods us with doomsday predictions, conspiracy theories, or voices that sow doubt about our faith. Perhaps it's a colleague at work spreading negativity, or even inner voices of anxiety whispering lies about our worth. I've known friends who've battled such fears—worrying over health scares amplified by unreliable sources, or feeling paralyzed by global news that paints a hopeless picture. But gently, let's remember: if these 'prophecies' don't align with God's loving plan revealed in Christ, we need not fear them. Turn instead to prayer, to the Rosary, to the Eucharist—sources of true peace that dispel the shadows. Beloved, in this noisy world, let Deuteronomy's promise be your shield. You are held in the Father's embrace, guided by the Holy Spirit, and redeemed by the Son. Do not fear the false; embrace the True. Step forward with courage, knowing that God's word endures forever. Fear not, for He is with you always! What false fear will you release today? Share in the comments, and let's encourage one another. #FearNot220 #017of220 #Catholic
