Verse #175 of 220

Dear friends in Christ, as we journey through our #FearNot220 series, let's pause and soak in the profound words of our Lord in John 15:11: '...that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.' Oh, what a beautiful promise! In a world often shadowed by worries, trials, and fleeting pleasures, Jesus invites us into a joy that's not of this earth—a deep, abiding joy rooted in His very presence within us. Imagine the vine and the branches, as Jesus describes just before this verse. We are the branches, He is the vine, and the Father is the gardener. It's in remaining connected to Him, abiding in His love and commandments, that His joy flows into us, making our own joy full and overflowing. This isn't a superficial happiness dependent on circumstances; it's the supernatural joy that sustained the martyrs, that lit up the faces of the saints through centuries of hardship. Reflecting on this, I can't help but turn to the wisdom of St. Augustine, that great Early Church Father whose heart was restless until it rested in God. In his Confessions, he speaks of true joy as finding our delight in the Lord alone, echoing Jesus' words. Augustine reminds us that the joys of this world are but shadows; the complete joy Christ offers is like the sun breaking through the clouds, illuminating our souls with eternal light. Just as Augustine found his wandering heart anchored in God's love, so too can we, drawing from the same vine that nourished the early Church. In our everyday lives, this hits home gently yet powerfully. Think of that busy parent juggling work and family, feeling drained by the end of the day. Or the student facing exams and uncertainties about the future. Or perhaps you're walking through a season of loss, where grief threatens to overshadow everything. I've been there—those moments when joy seems distant, like a forgotten melody. But here's the gentle truth: when we turn to prayer, to Scripture, to the sacraments, we're tapping into that divine joy. A quiet moment in adoration, sharing a meal with loved ones in gratitude, or simply whispering 'Jesus, I trust in You'—these are the lifelines that connect us back to the vine. I've seen it in my own life; amidst the chaos of deadlines and doubts, choosing to abide in Him brings a peace that bubbles up into genuine joy, even in small things like a child's laughter or a sunset painted by the Creator's hand. Beloved, let's not settle for incomplete joy. Jesus desires His joy to be in us fully—complete, unshakeable, radiant. Abide in Him today. Let His words dwell in your heart, His love prune away what hinders, and watch as your joy blossoms. You're not alone; the saints cheer us on, the Church embraces us, and Christ Himself is our source. Fear not, for in Him, your joy is made complete! #FearNot220 #175of220 #Catholic
