🌟 #FearNot220: Verse 001 of 220 🌟
Dear friends in Christ, let us begin this sacred journey through Scripture's comforting words against fear with the very first divine assurance in the Bible: 'Fear not, Abram! I am your shield; your reward will be very great.' (Genesis 15:1). Oh, what a tender promise from our loving Father! In the quiet of the night, as Abram gazed upon the stars, God spoke directly to his heart, dispelling the shadows of doubt and uncertainty that plagued this faithful patriarch.
Imagine Abram—later Abraham, the father of nations—wrestling with the weight of unfulfilled promises. He had left everything behind at God's call, yet the heir he longed for seemed as distant as those twinkling lights above. Fear crept in: fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear that his life's journey might end in barrenness. But God, in His infinite mercy, steps in not with rebuke, but with reassurance. 'I am your shield,' He declares—a protector unbreakable, a guardian against every arrow of adversity. And not just protection, but abundance: 'Your reward will be very great.' This isn't mere survival; it's flourishing in the divine plan.
The Early Church Fathers echoed this profound truth in their reflections. St. Augustine, in his 'City of God,' marveled at Abraham's faith as a model for us all, noting how God shielded him not only from physical foes but from the spiritual tempests of doubt. Augustine reminds us that Abraham's shield was God's own presence, a foretaste of the ultimate shield we find in Christ, who bore our fears on the Cross. Just as God protected Abraham amid pagan lands and personal trials, so too does He safeguard our souls today, weaving our stories into His eternal tapestry of grace.
In our own lives, don't we often mirror Abram's fears? Perhaps you're facing a career crossroads, where the path ahead feels shrouded in fog. Or maybe health concerns loom like gathering storms, or relationships strain under the pressure of misunderstanding. In these moments, dear one, recall that God is your shield too. He doesn't promise a life without battles, but He vows to stand before you, absorbing the blows so you can advance in faith. I've seen it in the quiet testimonies of parishioners: a mother finding strength after loss, a young professional discerning vocation amid uncertainty—all shielded by prayer and the sacraments, emerging with rewards of deeper peace and unexpected blessings.
So, fear not, beloved! Let this verse be your anchor. Trust in the God who shielded Abraham, who inspired the Fathers, and who walks with you now. Your reward—eternal life in His love—awaits. Step forward boldly, for He is with you always. May the intercession of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, guide us through every night. Amen. 🙏
