Fear Not 220

I am the first and the last...' What a profound assurance from Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, who holds all time in His loving hands! As Catholics, we are reminded that He who was present at the dawn of creation and will stand victorious at the end of ages speaks directly to our fears, inviting us into His eternal peace. Reflecting on this, the Early Church Father St. Victorinus of Pettau, one of the earliest commentators on the Book of Revelation, saw in these words a divine promise of Christ's sovereignty over life and death. He emphasized how Jesus, risen and glorified, banishes fear by revealing Himself as the eternal source of all existence—much like how St. John, overwhelmed in his vision, was gently touched and revived by the Savior. This isn't just ancient wisdom; it's a living truth for us today. In our everyday lives, perhaps you're facing a health scare, financial worries, or the anxiety of an uncertain future—think of those moments when the world feels overwhelming, like a storm-tossed sea. Gently, remember: Jesus is there, the First and the Last, whispering 'Do not be afraid.' He who calmed the waves for His disciples calms our hearts too, reminding us that no trial is beyond His reach. Lean into your faith, pray the Rosary, or seek solace in the Eucharist—He is with you, from beginning to end. So, beloved, let this verse be your anchor today. Embrace His promise, step forward in courage, and trust that the One who is eternal has you securely in His embrace.
