Verse #115 of 220
Dear friends in Christ, 🌟 In the radiant light of the Transfiguration, as recorded in Matthew 17:7, our Lord Jesus gently touches His disciples and speaks these comforting words: '...do not be afraid.' What a profound moment of divine reassurance! Amid the awe-inspiring vision of Jesus transfigured, with Moses and Elijah appearing, Peter, James, and John fall to the ground in holy fear. But Jesus, ever merciful, reaches out to lift them up, banishing their terror with His loving command.
Reflecting on this, the Early Church Father St. John Chrysostom beautifully reminds us that Christ's words here are not just for that mountaintop experience but for all of us facing the uncertainties of life. He notes how Jesus' touch and voice dispel fear, showing God's intimate care for our human frailty—much like a parent calming a frightened child. This echoes the patristic wisdom that fear often stems from our limited vision, but faith in Christ transforms it into trust.
In our everyday lives, don't we all encounter moments that make our hearts tremble? Perhaps it's the anxiety of a new job, the worry over a loved one's health, or the shadows of doubt in our spiritual journey. Just as Jesus touched the disciples, He reaches out to us today through prayer, the sacraments, and the supportive embrace of our Catholic community. Let this verse be a gentle reminder that in the midst of life's storms, we are never alone—our Savior is always there, whispering, 'Rise, and do not be afraid.'
So, beloved, let's embrace this encouragement: Step forward with courage, knowing that the same Jesus who conquered death holds your hand. Fear not, for His love casts out all fear! May this truth fill your hearts with peace and joy. 🙏✨ #FearNot220 #115of220 #Catholic
