In the quiet of an ancient threshing floor, hidden from the eyes of oppressors, a young man named Gideon encountered the divine. The Angel of the Lord appeared, calling him to a destiny far greater than he could imagine—to lead Israel out of Midian's grasp. But fear gripped Gideon’s heart. He had offered a meal, a sign of hospitality, and in a blaze of fire, it was consumed. Terrified, he cried out, believing his end had come. Yet, from the heavens came a voice of profound reassurance: 'Be calm, do not fear. You shall not die.' (Judges 6:23) Oh, how this echoes through the ages to us today! In our own hidden places—those moments of doubt, anxiety, and overwhelming uncertainty—God speaks the same words. Life throws its Midians at us: financial woes, health crises, broken relationships, the weight of a world in turmoil. We thresh our worries in secret, wondering if we'll ever rise. But hear the Lord: Be calm. Do not fear. You shall not die. This isn't just a platitude; it's a promise rooted in God's unchanging nature. Gideon, the least in his family, from the weakest clan, was chosen not for his strength, but for his willingness to listen. And listen he did, transforming from a fearful farmer into a mighty warrior. His story reminds us that fear is not the end—it's often the beginning of faith's triumph. Today, perhaps you're facing your own 'angelic encounter'—a challenge that feels like fire consuming your plans. Maybe it's a diagnosis that shakes you, a loss that leaves you reeling, or simply the daily grind that whispers defeat. Be calm. God's peace surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). Do not fear—He who calmed the storm on Galilee calms the tempests in our souls. You shall not die—not in spirit, not in hope, not in purpose. For in Christ, we have eternal life, and even in earthly trials, He sustains us. As Catholics, we turn to the sacraments for this grace: the Eucharist, where Christ Himself reassures us of His presence; Confession, where fears are absolved; and prayer, our direct line to the Father. Let Mary's fiat inspire us—'Be it done unto me'—even in fear, she trusted. So, rise, beloved! Like Gideon, build your altar of peace today. Offer your fears to God, and watch them transform into testimonies of His faithfulness. You are called, you are equipped, you are alive in Him. Be calm, do not fear. You shall not die. #FearNot220 #Catholic #028of220
