Verse #112 of 220

In the hustle of our daily lives, fear often creeps in like a shadow—fear of loss, fear of pain, fear of the unknown. But listen to the words of our Lord in Matthew 10:28: '...do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.' What a profound reminder from Jesus Himself! In a world where threats loom large—be it physical dangers, societal pressures, or the uncertainties of tomorrow—our Savior calls us to a higher perspective. The body may suffer, yes, but the soul? That's eternal. That's what truly matters. Think of the early Christian martyrs, like St. Polycarp or St. Agnes, who faced gruesome deaths with unshakeable faith. They didn't cower before emperors or executioners because they knew: no human power could touch their immortal souls. Their courage stemmed from a deep trust in God's promise of eternal life. As Catholics, we're heirs to this heroic legacy. We're called to live boldly, proclaiming the Gospel without fear. In today's context, this verse speaks volumes. Afraid of speaking your faith at work? Worried about backlash for upholding Church teachings on life, marriage, or justice? Remember, the worst anyone can do is harm the body. But God? He holds your soul in His loving hands. Cultivate a holy fear—a reverent awe—of the Lord, who desires your salvation above all. Let this truth empower you: Fear not the temporal; embrace the eternal. Strengthen your soul through prayer, the sacraments, and community. Attend Mass, confess your sins, receive the Eucharist— these are your spiritual armor against the real destroyer. Friends, in the #FearNot220 series, we're journeying through Scripture to banish fear and embrace God's peace. Today, let Matthew 10:28 liberate you. Stand firm in faith, for your soul is safe in Christ. As St. John Paul II often said, 'Be not afraid!' Open your doors to Christ, and let His light dispel every shadow. May the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who pondered these words in her heart, guide us to fearless discipleship. Go forth with joy, knowing that eternal life awaits those who persevere. #FearNot220 #Catholic #112of220
