Verse #185 of 220

In the hustle of our daily lives, amidst trials and triumphs, the Apostle Paul gives us a simple yet profound command in 1 Thessalonians 5:16: "Rejoice always." As Catholics, we know this isn't a call to superficial happiness, but to a deep, abiding joy rooted in our faith in Christ. This joy isn't dependent on circumstances; it's a fruit of the Holy Spirit, a grace that sustains us through every storm. Think about it: St. Paul wrote these words from prison, facing persecution and uncertainty. Yet he urged the Thessalonians—and us—to rejoice without ceasing. Why? Because our salvation is assured in Jesus. In the Catholic tradition, this echoes the joy of the saints. St. Teresa of Ávila, amid her own sufferings, said, "Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things pass away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices." Her words remind us that true rejoicing comes from union with God. In our modern world, rejoicing always might seem impossible. We face economic pressures, health crises, family struggles, and global unrest. But as followers of Christ, we're invited to see beyond the veil. Every Mass is a celebration of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our joy. Every rosary bead is a step toward heavenly gladness. Even in sorrow, like Mary at the foot of the Cross, we can find joy in God's redemptive plan. Rejoicing always means choosing gratitude over grumbling. It's praising God in the morning light and the evening shadows. It's finding delight in small mercies—a child's laughter, a friend's embrace, the beauty of creation. As Pope Francis teaches in Evangelii Gaudium, the joy of the Gospel fills our hearts and lives. Let's evangelize through our joy, showing the world that faith isn't a burden but a boundless source of happiness. Brothers and sisters, let's commit today to rejoice always. When doubt creeps in, recall the Resurrection—death defeated, hope eternal. When fear whispers, shout back with psalms of praise. In community, in prayer, in service, let joy be our witness. For in rejoicing, we fear not, knowing God is with us. #FearNot220 #Catholic #185of220
