Fear Not 220

Beloved in Christ, in the heart of Deuteronomy, as Moses prepares Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land, we hear this timeless assurance from Deuteronomy 31:8 (Douay-Rheims Bible):
"And the Lord who is your leader, he himself will be with thee: he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed."
What a profound promise! Here, on the threshold of great trials and uncertainties, God declares Himself our Pioneer. He does not merely follow at a distance—He goes before us, scouting the way, parting the seas of difficulty, and vanquishing every foe that would hinder our steps.
The Early Church Fathers illuminate this truth with radiant insight. Origen, in his Homilies on Joshua, reflects on how the Lord precedes us not only in time but in divine power, prefiguring Christ who leads us through the wilderness of this life to the eternal inheritance. As the Glossa Ordinaria echoes: "He goes before to show the way, and follows to defend." God's leadership is both vanguard and rearguard—perfect protection for His pilgrim people.
Dear friends, in our own journeys—amid financial storms, health battles, relational fractures, or the shadows of global unrest—hear this anew: It is the Lord who goes before you. He has already seen the Jordan you must cross, the giants in the land, the nights of weeping. He will not abandon you to dismay. When fear whispers that you're alone, remember: He is with you, His presence your unassailable strength.
Trust Him today. Let this verse be your mantra: "Fear not, neither be dismayed." Step forward with Joshua-like courage, for the Lord your God marches at the head of your procession. He who kept Israel will keep you. Rest in His promise, and watch Him part the waters.
