Fear Not 220

In the dramatic finale of Genesis, Joseph's brothers tremble with fear after their father Jacob's death. They worry that Joseph, now second only to Pharaoh, might finally unleash his long-held grudge for the betrayal that sold him into slavery years before. But Joseph, a man transformed by God's grace, responds with profound humility and trust:
"And Joseph answered: Fear not: can I resist the will of God?" (Genesis 50:19, Douay-Rheims Bible)
What a powerful declaration! Joseph isn't claiming divine authority; he's surrendering to it. He recognizes that vengeance, justice, and ultimate reconciliation belong to God alone. As the Early Church Father St. Augustine reflects in his commentary on Joseph's life, this moment reveals 'the wonderful providence of God, who turns evil intentions to good,' echoing Romans 8:28. Joseph's words remind us that no human can usurp God's sovereign plan—He weaves even our darkest chapters into tapestries of redemption.
Dear friends, in your own trials—betrayals, injustices, or lingering fears—hear Joseph's voice today: 'Fear not.' You don't need to grasp control or plot retribution. Can you take the place of God? No, and praise Him, you don't have to! Release those burdens into His capable hands. He sees the full story, from slavery to salvation, and He is working all things for your good.
Let this 'Fear Not' truth sink deep: Trust in His perfect will. When anxiety whispers lies of what might come, counter with Joseph's wisdom and Scripture's promise. God is your Defender, your Vindicator, your loving Father. Step into His peace today—fear not, for He is with you.
